Minden Hills declares State of Emergency due to flooding

The Township of Minden Hills has declared a State of Emergency in response to the flood conditions in the community and the escalating impact on municipal infrastructure.

Officials made the declaration on April 14 at 12:45 p.m.

The decision followed a Ministry of Natural Resources bulletin, which raised concerns about the rising water levels in the Gull River, and forecasted weather over the next 5-10 days.

Officials are advising residents in areas that are susceptible to flooding to take necessary precautions to protect their property, and continue to monitor developing conditions.

Self-serve sand and sandbags are available from the Minden Curling Club parking lot. Residents in need are reminded to bring a shovel.

Various Township roads have been impacted by rising water levels with complete washouts, water over the roadways, and ponding reported.

The following roads are closed:

  • Bobcaygeon Road – from Winding Creek Road to Scotch Line Road
  • Voicey Road between Tulip Road and Blairhampton Road
  • Buller Road at Clear Lake Road
  • Boyd Road at Brady Lake Road

The following roads have restricted access:

  • Invergordon Avenue – water on road, access is available through arena back enterance
  • Anson Street and McKnight Blvd – water over road
  • Devil’s Lake Road – one lane closed
  • Orde Street – water on road
  • Hospitality Road – water on road
  • Upper Dutch Line – washouts has road down to one lane only
