Walt McKechnie appointed new Mayor of Dysart et al

Walt McKechnie is the new Mayor of Dysart et al after being officially sworn in at a special council meeting on July 7.

“This is such an honour for me to sit in this chair that Murray sat in for so many years, giving service to this community,” said McKechnie. “I was a dear friend of his. I respected him so much. We miss him so much, and can never replace him.”

The Mayor’s chair was declared vacant by council on June 16 following the death of longtime Mayor Murray Fearrey on May 28.

McKechnie stressed the importance of continuing forward the major projects that Fearrey was so adamant about, and setting them up so that the next council can carry them through to completion.

Following his appointment, council officially declared the Deputy Mayor’s seat vacant. It will be filled by appointment of a current council member at a special meeting on July 28.
