Pat Casey appointed deputy mayor of Dysart et al

Coun. Pat Casey has been appointed the next Deputy Mayor of Dysart et al.

Casey and fellow councillor Nancy Wood-Roberts both announced their intentions to fill the vacant chair, after Walt McKechnie was appointed Mayor on July 7.

McKechnie’s appointment to the head of council came following the death of longtime Mayor Murray Fearrey.

Casey was appointed after receiving four votes from his fellow councillors during a meeting on July 27. He is one of three candidates who have announced their intentions to run for Mayor in the upcoming election.

Casey said over the past four years he has learned process, got to know the staff and a lot of people in the County as a councillor, and that the deputy mayor role is another step forward.

“Everybody knows here that I am well grounded and have a good practical knowledge of pretty much everything that goes on here in business and in public in the County,” he said.

Casey will serve as Deputy Mayor until the end of the term on Nov. 14. The councillor seat for Ward 1 will remain vacant until the next municipal election, scheduled for Oct. 26.
