Dysart et al considering speed limit reduction in Halbiem Crescent subdivision

Speed limits in the Haliburton by-the-lake subdivision could soon be reduced to 30 km/hr.

Dysart et al council is considering the change in the Halbiem Crescent subdivision after receiving a request from its residents.

One of those residents, Kim Stamp, addressed council during a meeting on Aug. 25, asking for the creation of a Community Safety Zone, which would reduce the speed limit in the subdivision from 50 to 30 km/hr.

“Our current speed limit of 50 km/h is way to fast for the safety of everyone using our roads system,” said Stamp.

“This reduction…is critical to the safety…to not just the residents of our subdivision, but to all of the residents of this Township and Haliburton County who regular come into our subdivision and out our road system.”

According to Stamp, residents use our road system to access Sir Sanford Fleming College, the museum, the sculpture forest, and the local trail system, among other things.

Following her delegation, council requested staff to set up a traffic counter to collect their own speed data.

Staff will also be drafting a speed reduction bylaw, and bringing it to the Sept. 22 meeting for council consideration.
