OPP lay murder charges in connection with 2024 homicide investigation

An 81-year-old Peterborough man is facing a second degree murder charge in connection with a death in Minden Hills.

According to the OPP, officers initiated a missing person investigation in January 2024 after a family member reported that they had been unable to reach 58-year-old Michael Walker and were concerned for his well-being. Police say as the investigation progressed, information gathered led officers to believe his disappearance was the result of foul play.

As a result of the investigation, an 81-year-old Peterborough man has been charged with second degree murder, and indignity to a human body.

He remains in custody and is slated to appear in court in Lindsay on Sept. 24.

Police say an investigation, being conducted by Kawartha Lakes OPP, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, is ongoing.

Anyone with information that may assist the OPP in the ongoing investigation is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122.
