Speed limit reduction coming to Halbiem Crescent subdivision

The speed limit in the Haliburton-by-the Lake subdivision will soon be reduced.

At a meeting on Sept. 22, Dysart et al council approved a resolution to reduce the speed limit in the local subdivision from 50 km/hr down to 30 km/hr.

The decision follows a request from residents who live in the area.

One of those residents, Kim Stamp, addressed council during a meeting on Aug. 25, and asked for a reduction in the speed limit.

Following this request, staff did their own research. Although they said they found no evidence of drivers regularly exceeding the current speed limit, staff agreed that a request to lower the limit in the subdivisions was reasonable.

At council’s request, staff will draft a speed rate bylaw and bring it to the Oct. 13 meeting for approval.
