Parks Canada is moving forward with the replacement of the Little Brother Lake Dam in the Township of Algonquin Highlands.
Officials say the work is part of an ongoing commitment to maintaining the safety and functionality of critical water management infrastructure across the Trent-Severn waterway.
The project will replace the existing dam with a new reinforced concrete structure. According to officials, the replacement will maintain the existing operating parameters. It is not expected to change normal water levels on Little Brother Lake.
Construction is expected to begin Nov. 2, and continue into 2027.
Work will include:
- installation of temporary cofferdams and isolation systems;
- dewatering of the construction area;
- fish salvage and relocation activities, if required;
- removal of the existing dam;
- excavation to competent bedrock;
- construction of a new reinforced concrete gravity dam;
- installation of new stoplog operating equipment, a deck and catwalk; and
- site restoration, including vegetation rehabilitation and environmental monitoring.
