Second Career program provides up to $28k in financial support for workers

Seasonal workers across Haliburton County looking for training or education have access to free financial support. It’s through the Fleming CREW office in a program called Second Career. Employment and training consultant Bernie Nicholson explains what it offers:

Nicholson says the program is all funded through the government so people can receive up to 28 thousand dollars in financial support without having to pay it back.

There are a lot of different options in terms of what programs people can access, says Nicholson.

The program has been offered since the Employment Centre’s inception in 2005. According to Nicholson, they have about 12 – 15 people complete it every year.

She says many seasonal workers are eligible, but they really encourage people to call the employment centre to find out details. Even those who may not know what they are interested in can take an assessment that will give some options.

The best part of the program, Nicholson explains, is the huge financial support it offers because it pays for living expenses, tuition, day care, and transportation. She says there’s also another important aspect of the program:

The Fleming CREW office is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, and starting on May 9, will be open 9 a.m. to noon, the second Saturday of every month.

To find out more, go to their website, or call the office at 705-457-2020.
