Turtle monitors gear up for year two, volunteer training on Wednesday

The next phase of the Haliburton Land Trust’s famous Turtle Project will get underway soon. Last year, over three thousand hours was spent monitoring Haliburton County Roads to find out where turtles were most at risk. The project is the only one of it’s kind because they installed a barrier fence to prevent turtles from crossing the road. Past Chair Sheila Ziman explains what this year will be about for the project

Ziman says they’ll be testing the project by collecting data and comparing it to other sites.

They’re holding a training session for anyone looking to volunteer and get involved in the project. It’s happening on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Fish Hatchery.
