Highlands East food hub project moves forward, sets community meeting

The next stage in the Highlands East food hub project will get underway soon, so they’re holding a public meeting to give everyone the updates.

The project received funding last year to build onto the Lloyd Watson Centre for the food bank, and to act as a storage hub for all of Haliburton County. One of the people involved, John Teljeur says they are sending out tenders in the next ten days and they hope to start building in the summer, and start using it in the fall.

A community meeting on May 5 will be so people can ask questions and give feedback. They’ll also be talking about potential programs that can be offered through the new facility. The community meeting is at the Lloyd Watson Centre at 7 pm.
