The Municipality of Highlands East is seeing a decline in property crimes. Staff Sergeant with the Bancroft Detachment, Meghan Cavanaugh told councilors yesterday that a lot of it has to do with a new designated property crimes officer. This position has also helped to reduce the number of repeat offenders.
Because of the location of the municipality, Bancroft OPP patrol as far as Wilberforce, and Haliburton Highlands OPP patrol the rest of the municipality.
Cavanaugh also told councilors that despite an increase in drinking and driving in other areas of the province, that’s not the case here.
