A new program through Haliburton Highlands Health Services will give terminal patients and their families more support. Melanie Hawkins is the Manager of the Palliative Care Community Team and she explains how it will work:
The program is funded by our Local Health Integration Network. Hawkins says they already have doctors available 24/7 for palliative support to the CCAC.
The program will be launched on June 1 as a soft roll out to make sure they have all the processes and paperwork right. Hawkins talks about how they’ll be able to measure success.
Once all of the kinks are worked out, Hawkins says they’ll be doing some more public education. That will include their key message:
