Not a positive consensus at solar farm public meeting

The only general consensus out of last night’s public meeting, was that residents are very concerned and not entirely convinced about the solar farm proposed for Bethel Road.

Algonquin Power was on hand, assuring people that the project is in very early stages. They said very extensive environmental assessments need to be done by experts, and the project has to be approved by the Ministry of the Environment. That’s if the project even gets awarded the contract by the province.

Reeve Brent Devolin was at the meeting last night and said he doesn’t like how council is being asked to support it without all of the information. He said that’s hard to do, especially when the municipality and ratepayers won’t have direct economic benefit.

Minden Hills council still needs to decide whether or not they will support the application for the project.
