Years of work by Minden’s Disaster Relief Committee could finally be paying off now that the province has announced changes to the current assistance program.
The committee dissolved a few months ago after they submitted a final report to local council, and the provincial government.
According to the province, the current system will be replaced early next year. The new changes will include a four month time period for municipalities to request assistance, instead of 14 days. It also says communities won’t have to fundraise in order to get matching funds from the province.
