NewsForest Festival inspiration named to Order of Canada SHARE ON: Sue Black, staff Tuesday, Dec. 31st, 2013Contemporary composer, music educator and environmentalist R. Murray Schafer has been named to the Order of Canada. The 80-year old Schafer first used Bone Lake in Haliburton Forest as a natural theatre in the woods. Haliburton County’s Forest Festival began in association with R. Murray Schafer’s Patria Music and Theatre projects, before becoming an independent festival in 2009. Mr. Schafer joins 90 other Order of Canada recipients announced yesterday by Governor General David Johnston.
