Fireworks by-law not moving forward in Highlands East

A by-law for fireworks is not moving forward in Highlands East.

Thanks to a few residents and business owners who expressed their concerns, council is not going ahead with it. Based on the original draft, the by-law would limit when fireworks could be set off, but also restricted when they could be displayed and sold in stores. One business owner says those sales are much needed revenue.

Fire Chief Bill Wingrove says there have only been two complaints so far, and they were noise issues, so there’s already a by-law for that. Council is not putting in any regulations at this time.
