Local MPP wants a stronger criminal justice system

Local MPP Laurie Scott is challenging the provincial Liberals to strengthen the criminal justice system. The Women’s Issues Critic says the government needs to prevent tragedies and protect women.

Scott says crown attorneys are not notified when convicted offenders refuse to sign their probation orders and she thinks they should be.

In response, the Attorney General says it’s not a condition to hold someone when they don’t sign their probation. She says that’s how the triple homicide in Renfrew County could have been avoided.

The Attorney General, in response, says domestic violence is not tolerated in Ontario and the government is committed to finding ways to prevent domestic violence, support victims and address the justice system response.
