Local TLDSB support staff reach tentative agreement

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board has reached a tentative agreement with CUPE local 997.

The union represents custodians, maintenance workers, clerical staff and educational assistants across TLDSB schools.

A provincial agreement was reached last week, but a local agreement had to be negotiated under the School Boards’ Collective Bargaining Act.

CUPE local 997 President William Campbell says he’s pleased to have a local contract that respects the employees.

Campbell says there are two levels of bargaining for school boards and last night they reached the second phase in the agreement to make it a local deal.

In order for the central agreement to be ratified, all local chapters need to make agreements with their school boards as well.
