A municipal land transfer tax will make home ownership more unaffordable in Haliburton County. HKLB MPP Laurie Scott is delivering that message to the provincial government.
Scott says the tax is meant to give more money to municipalities, but it’s only being proposed because the government can’t support them the way they should.
Scott says the Ontario Real Estate Association has been fighting this for years, since it was implemented in Toronto a number of years ago. She says studies have shown it’s cost the city billions of dollars in lost economic activity.
The motion against the tax will be debated in Legislature on December 3rd. Scott says that will force the Liberals to vote on whether or not they plan to bring in the tax.
