Local blood drives aren’t bringing in enough donations to help patients in need. Canadian Blood Services was in five local municipalities over the past week, from Haliburton to Parry Sound to Huntsville.
Overall, the drives came up short by 21 units of blood, which could have gone into helping four heart surgery patients. The good news is that Haliburton had six donors over and above the goal. However, it wasn’t enough to make up for the shortfall in other towns.
CBS Territory Manager, Elaine St. Pierre, says these numbers are on trend with a tough winter for blood donations. She says they need new donors to step up and help fill the gap.
The full breakdown of the blood drive numbers are below:
- Parry Sound: Â goal – 120, collected – 99
- Huntsville: goal – 58, collected – 50
- Bracebridge: goal – 120 , collected – 129
- Haliburton:  goal – 72, collected – 78
- Gravenhurst: goal 58, collected – 51
The next blood drive in Haliburton is on May 29th. Go to the Canadian Blood Services website to book an appointment.
