O.P.P. hoping to get rid of 9-1-1 pocket dials

The Haliburton Highlands O.P.P. is asking the public to be careful when calling 9-1-1.

Province-wide, the O.P.P. received nearly 300 thousand calls last year, and over 30 thousand of them were either pocket dials or calls from an unknown wireless device.

Haliburton Highlands Community Safety Officer Dianna Dauphinee says 9-1-1 can be called from a phone without a sim card.

Dauphinee also says you should stay on the line if you accidentally call 9-1-1.

Dauphinee adds resources are used to look into pocket dials, which takes away resources from actual emergencies.
