The lack of affordable housing in the county is a concern to all lower-tier politicians.
Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton Housing Corporation Manager Hope Lee was in Algonquin Highlands council last week to talk about the issue.
Lee says many families are looking for an affordable place to call home in Haliburton.
Lee says anyone who owns a home can build a secondary suite on their property and turn it into an affordable rental unit.
Lee says the KL.H. Secondary Suite Program will give a homeowner up to $10,000 back on building a second unit.
The program will be available starting on April 1st.
