Haliburton Highlands CEO Carolyn Plummer says the HHHS is trying to better understand why people 75 and older in Minden Hills ranked number one for fall-related injuries.
Plummer said that amongst all the cities and towns in the sub-district that stretches as far as Kawartha Lakes and even Lindsay, Minden Hills experiences the most falls. Unsure of the factors behind the high number of falls, Plummer says the HHHS is dedicated to figuring out a system to prevent future injuries.
Although Stats Canada says that ice is the number one cause of falls in Canada, the Canadian Institute for Health Information suggests that regular balance and stability exercises, paired with proper footwear and the use of handrails, should reduce the number of falls.
