OPP officials are promoting the “lock it or lose it” method as the best way to prevent thefts from your home or car. Earlier this month a pair of businesses in Haliburton County were broken into and in one case ransacked.
The OPP suggests whenever possible store your outside valuables in locked sheds and containers, install motion sensor lights or even direct lights to aim at the entrances to your home or cottage.
It is also recommended that if you’re leaving for an extended period to make your home appear occupied by leaving a light or two on inside and never post to social media that your home is going to be empty. It is also recommended that you make spare keys and leave them with someone you trust rather than hide your key somewhere outside the home.
