The cost of the S.G. Nesbitt Memorial Arena renovations are starting to add up.
MacDonald Brothers Construction and Parkin Architecture might have to fit the bill for extra expenses in the validation process.
During the special meeting of council in Minden Hills, the group potentially working on renovating the arena detailed the extent of the validation process so far and the cost of the validation. Now that the process is done, MacDonald Brothers Construction report that it cost $323,331.97.
According to Councillor Bob Carter, that was a 50 per cent increase compared to the cost that the Minden councillor’s approved in December. Once the councilors heard the larger price, they unanimously voted to reject the cost which would mean that Parkin Architecture and MacDonald Brothers would have to cover the extra costs.
In the details from the validation process, Parkin Architecture explained the history of the arena, what the new arena would look like, and how much interest would be if the township delayed doing something about the arena.
As well, Parkin gave a demonstration of what the building will look like when it is completed.
Given the fact that several councilors were coming back from the Rural Ontario Municipal Association Conference, the councilors decided the best way forward was to defer voting on whether or not to proceed with the contractors.
