Algonquin Highlands have finalized their 2020 budget.
After 3 days of staff presentations and deliberations, a levy increase of 5.19 percent was agreed upon.
Mayor Carol Moffatt said the education rate was down this year and they were able to take advantage of that. But Mayor Moffatt said that there was nowhere for taxation to go but up. She said taxes will go up because of the bigger infrastructure projects that are ahead of them. Like capital investments and fire trucks and roads and the public works garage, which is in ‘desperate need of being replaced’.
The tax rate is 1.94 percent, which translates to a $1.62 on a 100,000 dollar assessment.
