Cell phone coverage improvement project moving forward

The project to improve cell coverage in Haliburton county is moving one step forward.

Local MPP Laurie Scott announced Tuesday that all three levels of government have given money towards strengthening cell phone coverage and closing the cell phone service gaps.

MPP Scott says the request for proposal has gone out to companies outlining what the Eastern Ontario Regional Network want to do, and asking for their ideas and numbers on how to do it.

She says going out for RFP means it won’t be built tomorrow, but it’s putting it out there, getting the feedback on who can boost the tower, who wants to build the tower.

She says there are many red dots in northern Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County so that’s that’s just another step forward, in getting better cell gap connectivity and of course all that builds on broadband and the need to expand as things develop.

She notes “we all want higher connectivity and that’s a big foothold in place. Eastern Ontario Regional Network and our local representatives have worked hard on that over the years and have done a great job”

She says Dave Burton, Brent Devolin and Jim Pine have all been on it, pushing for this cell gap expansion . MPP Scott says it’s good news and the move forward will make people happy when they can connect their cell phones.
