A call out to local retired health professionals has had an amazing response. Dr. Bottum says they want to be ready, when and if it’s needed
Dr. Bottum says they’re trying to be proactive. The hospital put out a call for people with health care experience, whether they’re retired or former health care workers. He says this means they can get their name on a list, so that if the health care system in Haliburton county needs support, they can call upon them. He says we’re fortunate our hospitals have not been overrun.
Every few days the emergency department runs through scenarios to help be ready for people, and they’re including these retirees and former health care professionals in the drills. He says it’s all about teamwork and it’s “been fantastic”.
But Dr. B. says it’s going to be a slow process and we have to stay diligent. If we get complacent and get too close, this virus could “take off like wildfire again”.
