Algonquin Highlands are beginning the process of recognizing short term rentals as an emerging issue that needs to be addressed.
In a special meeting of council this morning, planning consultant Greg Corbett will present a report outlining the issues surrounding the fastest growing sector in the ‘sharing economy”.
The report defines short term rental accommodations and outlines known issues. The report offers 4 options to be considered, from doing nothing to changing the official plan and zoning by-laws and requiring licenses.
The 3 other municipalities in the county are also reviewing short term rentals, but have not yet put any regulations in place.
