Senior Technician with Bancroft Minden Forest Company, Ernie Demuth says the disease is destroying forests in Haliburton County. The company is working to remove all of the infected trees, but run into a lot of resistance from residents.
Demuth says he’s amazed by the lack of knowledge, but once people hear about it, they welcome the work that’s being done.
Warden Murray Fearrey says it’s a huge problem that is also a hazard because trees that look healthy can snap at any time. He says there is an opportunity to hold public sessions to increase awareness.
