Our local health unit is encouraging parents to give a gift that’s not electronic this Christmas.
Family Health Nurse Shelley Shaughnessy says books are a great way to spend time with kids and boost their communication skills. She also says a gift card to the local bookstore, or library cards are more ways to encourage reading.
Even though it seems old-fashioned, the health unit says books support children’s speech and language skills.
