Algonquin Highlands residents will have to wait a little longer to learn the fate of the Hawk Lake Log Chute.
Parks, Recreation and Trails Manager Chris Card provided an update on the aging wooden structure at a special budget meeting on Nov. 27.
Card says engineers recently conducted a full assessment of the entire structure, and staff are waiting to receive a detailed report with recommendations.
In August, Card informed council that the log chute was beyond its serviceable lifespan and falling apart, and suggested its removal.
After a lengthy council discussion, council directed staff to consult an engineer to see if any portion of the structure can be retained.
A report from those consultants is expected to be presented to council in January, prior to the approval of the 2026 municipal budget.
