Over $10,700 raised for new playground at J.D. Hodgson and Stuart Baker elementary schools

A ‘Pasta for Playground’ event raised over $10,700 for new playground equipment at J.D. Hodgson and Stuart Baker elementary schools.

The event, held on Feb. 26 at the Haliburton Highlands Secondary School, was hosted by parent councils.

According to officials, the new playground will be completed over three phases. The first being a Grade 1 to 8 structure, the second being a Kindergarten climbing structure, and the third being soccer nets.

“This was a huge undertaking for our school councils,” said Lauren Adelson, Stuart Baker Elementary School council chair. “I want to thank everyone who volunteered their time and energy to help make it happen. I also want to thank everyone who came out and donated to help us raise money for a new playground. I personally think this event was a huge success and look forward to it becoming an annual event.”

Officials said approximately 200 people attended the event and enjoyed dinner served over two seatings, with all food prepared and served by the secondary school’s hospitality class, with assistance from the Haliburton Lions Club.

Officials also said attendees enjoyed musical entertainment, games, raffles, and a silent auction.
