The Central Food Network’s Heat Bank is building an additional firewood shelter at the Highland Grove depot thanks to a donation from District 18 Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes of Entente Education Canada.
According to officials, a $4,000 grant will fund the construction of the shelter increasing storage capacity and helping volunteers to safely access and distribute essential heating support.
Reliable heat is essential for well-being,” said George Denny, president of the local chapter of Entente Education Canada. “By building this new firewood shelter, we’re helping to create a more resilient community.”
According to officials, the Central Food Network’s Heat Bank program supported 389 individuals last year, including 140 seniors. With this community grant, volunteers will be able to cut, split and stack firewood more easily, ensuring timely delivery to households throughout the winter.
