County of Haliburton offering free book collections to children with print disabilities

The County of Haliburton is offering free book collections to children with print disabilities.

According to county officials, through the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA), eligible children can access a free collection of books and magazines in formats that work for them.

Officials said the collection includes audiobooks, accessible eBooks with customizable text and read-along options, Braille and print-Braille picture books, magazines, and a variety of English and French titles.

The collection also features picture books, popular series, novels, classics, nonfiction, works by Canadian authors and resources for school projects.

The county said the books can be enjoyed on mobile devices, computers, and Chromebooks using accessible reading apps.

Officials said materials are also compatible with assistive technology such as braille displays and DAISY players. Braille books can also be shipped directly to residents’ homes at no cost.
