OPP warning businesses about ongoing scam

Haliburton Highlands OPP is warning local businesses of an ongoing fire inspection scam.

Police said fraudsters are currently advising businesses that the fire department will be attending to conduct a fire inspection. However, according to the OPP, these calls are not being made by local fire departments.

Businesses are encouraged to contact their local fire department directly should they receive a call of this nature.

Police said, when in doubt, slow things down and do not provide personal or business information over the phone.

Anyone who has been a a victim of a fraud or scam, is urged to consider contacting the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or the OPP.
