Officials with the Haliburton Highlands Land Trust say work that was enabled by a $193,000 Ontario Trillium Grant has concluded.
According to officials, a significant portion of the grant allowed the group to hire a Land Stewardship Manager to enhance and strengthen local land conservation programs to better serve the community.
“The Haliburton Highlands Land Trust plays an important role in protecting the natural landscapes and ecosystems that make our region so special,” said Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock MPP Laurie Scott. “Through this $193,200 investment from the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund, the Land Trust was able to strengthen its conservation efforts by supporting the addition of a dedicated Land Stewardship Manager. Thank you for ensuring these treasured natural spaces are protected and preserved for generations to come.”
Officials say, thanks to this initiative, the Land Trust’s partners in conservation increased from 31 to 71, representing 4,400 hectares of land where wildlife habitat is being protected. During the grant work, the organization also welcomed 16 new volunteers and increased is active volunteer base from 50 to 70.
“HHLT is extremely appreciative of this OTF funding as it enabled us to build our organizational capacity which amongst other things helped us implement two major strategic planning priorities: to be a healthy organization and have strong programs and partnerships,” said HHLT Board Chair Todd Hall.
