Broadband internet initiative taking place in Highlands East

Work on a new government-funded high speed broadband internet program is taking place in Highlands East.

According to officials, Cyient Canada, under contract on behalf of Bell Canada, is undertaking an initiative to bring high-speed internet services to rural areas using fiber optic cable.

Officials say, as part of the planning and design process, residents may notice Cyient and Bell vehicles and personnel in the area.

Officials will be surveying public roadways and utility corridors, and door knocking on properties where existing Bell infrastructure is located for validation and upgrades.
