The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate following a collision in Haliburton County.
According to police, Haliburton Highlands OPP were conducting traffic enforcement on Gelert Road shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 when they observed a motorcycle travelling at a high rate of speed. A short time later, the motorcycle was invovled in a single vehicle collision.
Police said the driver and passenger were taken to a local hospital. The driver was later transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries.
The OPP notified the SIU, which invoked its mandate. An investigation is ongoing.
