Earth Week reminders on how to reduce impact on the environment

Earth Week celebrations are taking place across the province, and there’s something we can all do to help reduce our impact on the environment.

Conserve water with shorter showers, wash clothes in cold water and plant drought-resistant gardens. You can also save energy and money at home by using lids while cooking to reduce energy consumption by up to 14 per cent.

Microwaves use up to 75 per cent less electricity than stoves, so you can use that to re-heat food instead of throwing it back on the stove.

Another tip is to use the right size pot to match the size of the burner. A six inch pot on an eight inch burner, for example, can waste more than 40 per cent of the burner’s heat.

You can also join some of the clean-up events happening around the County. You can visit your local municipality’s website to find out more.
