Scott says Wilno tragedy could have been avoided

The Ontario PC Critic for Women’s Issues says the triple homicide that happened in the Ottawa valley could have been avoided.

Laurie Scott says Basil Borutski was in prison for 19 months for assault and harassment. However, she says he wouldn’t sign his probation order.

According to Scott, Borutski’s probation stated he would stay away from one of the women he’s being charged with killing. Scott says there are gaps in the system, and services that are terribly underfunded.

She says there is only one probation officer for all of Renfrew County, and they only make visits once a week. Scott says the Community Policing Advisory Committee in the Ottawa Valley is upset because their services are underfunded.

However, Scott says this is a problem that’s been identified before.

Scott says along with the NDP, she’s asking the government why services are underfunded and why programs are being cut that can avoid these tragedies.
