The Wilberforce Food Bank has been approved to submit applications for grants to enhance the food banks in Haliburton County.
Food Bank Manager Ken Mott says the grants will be put towards building a walk in fridge and freezer on the kitchen at the Lloyd Watson Center. Mott says having the space will allow them to accept large food donations they are often offered but don’t currently have the space for. These donations can then be shared among the other food banks and community programs in Haliburton County.
The Food Bank also hopes to begin offering cooking classes so people will learn how to prepare healthier meals. John Teljuer who is also working on the project says they will not be looking for huge fundraising from the community. Applying for the grant will mean money will be going into the community, instead of being dispersed within it.
