Gas Station Proposal Raises Concerns

The public is raising concerns about a proposed gas station in Haliburton. It would go next to Tim Hortons on County Road 21. However, Peninsula Road homeowners don’t want another gas station, saying the town can only support one. They also say there are enough line ups on the highway, and foot traffic from people going to Tim Hortons. They say this is already a safety concern, and adding a gas station will increase the danger. The residents agree there needs to be development. However, they say it’s Dysart’s responsibility to have a vision, take the longer view, and create a plan for the area’s best economic interests, while keeping safety in mind. Sunray Developments pitched the gas station proposal to council last August.  The property is owned by Haliburton resident Jerry Walker.
