Health Unit says more cash is needed to keep up with programming

Our local health unit is pushing the province for more money. The Haliburton-Kawartha-Pine Ridge District Health Unit recently passed its budget, and is saying it’s clear more cash is needed to help keep up with programs.

The health unit says it hasn’t gotten an increase to its funding base since 2014. Director of Corporate Services, Mary Catherine Masciangelo, says they have been working to reduce spending, like closing an office in Brighton, and not filling positions when people resign or retire.

She says they’re now looking at some options to save more money while still being able to service the community
