Three ton load limit on Bear Lake Road Bridge until repairs are done

The Bear Lake Road Bridge has a three ton weight limit on it now.

The Township of Algonquin Highlands called a special council meeting that happened yesterday to approve the weight limit.

According to an engineer’s report on the bridge presented to council, the bridge will need just over $67,000.

Mayor Carol Moffatt says the township originally budgeted $40,000 for expected work, but when the site was being inspected, something wasn’t right.

The report says the east ballast and abutment walls need to be repaired.

Moffatt says council wants to see the bridge fixed as quickly as feasibly possible.

Moffatt added one of the benefits of having a surplus is when inspection reports like this end up finding more work than expected.

The Bear Lake Road Bridge is on a seasonal road that closes upon first snowfall.
