Minden Hills considering insurance to reduce financial burden on groups needing to use municipal property

Minden Hills is looking at insurance that will help groups be able to use municipal facilities.

According to a report presented to Minden’s Committee of the Whole, the cost of obtaining insurance for individuals and groups is out of the reach of some.

Reeve Brent Devolin says the township wants to help people and groups, like service clubs for example, be able to use municipal property for events.

Devolin says council has discussed this issue before.

According to the report, the premium would cost the township just under $2,500 for $5 million liability coverage.

The report also says major events, like marches and rodeos, would not be included in this premium.

Devolin says he expects council will discuss this in more detail before the end of the year.
