Highlands East now has a mayor.
After a month of public consultation, the municipality changed Reeve Dave Burton’s title to mayor.
Part of the process was a poll on the Highlands East website.
Burton says the majority of those who voted on the online poll favoured the change.
He adds the costs for the change will be minimal.

The Ontario Municipal Act only recognizes a Head of Council, not a reeve or mayor.
Under the change, Suzanne Partridge’s title changes from Deputy Reeve to Deputy Mayor.
