Provincial legislation expands what councils can discuss in closed sessions

Bill 68 will increase the scope of what can be discussed in closed sessions for councils.

The Modernizing Ontario’s Municipal Legislation Act was discussed at county council.

Councilor Carol Moffatt says there are no red flags as far as what can be discussed behind closed doors.

Moffatt adds one provision would let councils be notified if they are successful on grant applications in closed sessions by the province or feds.

Other topics that can now be discussed in closed sessions include information on any trade secrets.

The bill was passed on May 30th.
