Health Unit reminding residents to get flu vaccine after first case confirmed

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is reminding residents to get the flu shot.

This comes after the health unit confirmed its first case of influenza earlier this week but wouldn’t confirm where the positive test came from.

Due to privacy laws, H.K.P.R. cannot give any details about the case.

Manager of Communicable Disease Control Marianne Rock says anyone over six-months-old should get the shot.

To prevent spreading the virus, Rock also recommends coughing or sneezing into your sleeve, washing your hands and staying home if you’re sick.

The unit says if you haven’t gotten your flu, there are free clinics throughout the county.
