Minden Hills wants to expropriate land by the fire hall on Prince Street.
Mayor Brent Devolin says the township has been negotiating with the property owner during this term of council, as well as the previous one.
Devolin says in the last year, the township made what he feels was a more than fair offer to buy the land.
While he did not give specifics, Devolin says the township has exciting plans for the area.
In order to initiate the expropriation process, council has to pass bylaw, which could happen later this month.
After that, there will be a hearing and if no objections are raised, council can then pass another bylaw giving it title to the land in question.
According to the Expropriations Act, the offer to the land owner must be at minimum the appraised value of the property.
